Kano Retired Officers Launch Security Forum, Declare War on Drug Abuse, Thuggery.

A newly established body, Retired Military, Police, DSS, Paramilitary and Senior Civil Servants–Kano Forum, has pledged to complement existing security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across Kano State.

The Chairman of the forum, Col. Yusuf Maitama Aminu (Rtd), said the association is non-partisan and committed to promoting peace and security for all residents regardless of religion or tribe. He noted that although members are retirees, they remain dedicated to supporting security agencies including the military, police, DSS, NDLEA, and NSCDC in achieving greater success in their statutory responsibilities.

According to him, the legally registered forum has already commenced advocacy, collaboration, and synergy with key security stakeholders across the state, having visited military formations, police commands, and DSS offices. He added that plans are underway to engage traditional and religious institutions to strengthen community-based security efforts.

The forum also identified pressing social challenges such as thuggery (Daba), drug abuse, internally displaced persons (IDPs), Almajiri issues, street children, and youth restiveness as priority concerns requiring urgent intervention.‘We Are Retired, Not Tired’

The group called on philanthropists, community-based organizations (CBOs), NGOs, and government institutions to support efforts toward building a safer and better Kano, assuring residents that members’ wealth of experience and professional networks would be effectively utilized to address security and social welfare challenges in the state.
