Kano Holds Q1 2026 Nutrition Review Meeting to Strengthen Multi-Sectoral Action for Food Security

Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget, in collaboration with the UNICEF Kano Field Office, organized the Q1 2026 Review and Coordination Meeting ofthe  State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN)  today at Hotel Seventeen, Kaduna, under the theme: “Strengthening Multi-Sectoral Actions for Improved Nutrition and Food Security in Kano State.”

The meeting brought together line Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Development Partners and civil society organisations to assess the execution of nutrition programs and outline a concerted course of action, review nutrition programme implementation and chart a coordinated path forward.

In his welcome address, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, who also serves as Chairman of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition, Alh. Abdul Ajumawa, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration across sectors to address malnutrition and improve food security outcomes in the state.

He noted that reviewing progress from January–December 2025 and Q1 2026 would help identify gaps, share best practices and align efforts for greater impact.

In their separate remarks, the Nutrition Specialist from the UNICEF Abuja Country Office, Dr. Chizoba Stave-Ederiba and the Nutrition Manager of the UNICEF Kano Field Office, Dr. Karan Veer Singh, commended Kano State for the achievements recorded so far in nutrition programme implementation. They urged the State Committee on Food and Nutrition to further strengthen coordination and collaboration to improve nutrition programme delivery across the state.

The Secretary of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition, Nasir Kabir Abdulkadir, disclosed that the key objectives of the meeting included reviewing programme delivery, identifying achievements and challenges, strengthening coordination among SCFN members and stakeholders and generating actionable recommendations to improve nutrition programme delivery in Kano State.

Presentations during the meeting highlighted the roles and responsibilities of MDAs, partners and SCFN structures, while nutrition focal persons from various MDAs presented updates on the status of nutrition implementation within their respective agencies.

The Ministry reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to work closely with partners to ensure sustainable improvements in nutrition and food security, particularly for women and children.
