The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim, has called on youths in Kano State to consider surveying as a rewarding and sustainable profession, noting that its prospects are promising enough to ensure a comfortable and fulfilling livelihood.

Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim made this appeal while receiving executive members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Kano State Council, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare and empowerment of youths, describing them as the backbone and largest demographic of any society. The SSG further observed that Kano has become a center of attraction, which makes it imperative to encourage not only the youth but also the wider public to embrace professions and trades capable of providing steady sources of income.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Kano State Council, Surveyor Muhammad Aminu Yahaya Galadanci, congratulated Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim on his well-deserved appointment as SSG, expressing confidence in his ability to surpass expectations in service delivery.

Surveyor Galadanci disclosed that during the institution’s last Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Enugu, Kano State was chosen to host the forthcoming AGM scheduled for June 2026. He appealed to the state government for both moral and financial support to ensure the event’s success.

He also urged the present administration to prioritize the engagement of indigenous surveying firms in government projects, noting that there are fewer than ten such firms operating in the state.

Furthermore, Surveyor Galadanci stressed the need to establish more educational institutions dedicated to training young people in surveying, pointing out that the only existing one, located in Gwarzo, is insufficient to serve the state’s large population.

He concluded by seeking increased patronage for indigenous surveyors, whose works, he noted, are already visible across the state, and expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception accorded to his delegation.
