Sir, my name is Abdul, I am writing to you as a concerned Kano citizen with spinal cord injury disability, I am urging you please, in the name of Almighty Allah swt, to implement and ratify the state disability law that mandates the establishment of a commission for people with disabilities.

I strongly believe that it is crucial time now for individuals with disabilities to have a full functioning commission that can address issues and advocate for their rights effectively, that they be considered based on individual merits and not on some stereotyped assumption about people with disabilities in our state.

2. In order to ensure that this commission is truly representative and able to serve the needs of all individuals with disabilities, I propose the setting up of a committee that will oversee the appointment of the right individuals to run the commission. This committee should also include representatives from different clusters of people with disabilities, ensuring that their diverse needs and perspectives are taken into account.

3. Furthermore, I urge His Excellency Engr Abba K Yusuf to appoint a special advisor on Disability Matters who is a person with a disability among themselves. This advisor would provide valuable insight and expertise on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and help to guide policy decisions that promote their inclusion and well-being.

4. Additionally, I would like to suggest some other ways in which the state government can further support the development and inclusion of persons with disabilities:

i. Increase funding for disability training services and empowerment programs to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to the support and resources they need to thrive.

ii. Introduce new pollicy and support programs for labor employers especially the private sector to educate and encourage them on the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities because government alone can not employ everyone. And, by and large, provide them with the tools to create more inclusive workplaces.

iii. Tackles the lack of a comprehensive and precise Kano state PWDs database that encompasses individuals for inclusive participation in the state which is still a far cry when one considers disability as a physical, mental, sensorial and psychological deficiency found in an individual that limits a personโ€™s activities and views PWDs as unfortunate or victims of circumstance that society must care for as a moral responsibility.

iv.  Introduce a continued and regular radio educational awareness and communication workshop programs which will hold a key solution in increasing the needed tools to develop and address the PWDs inclusive level in the state.

v. Develop accessible infrastructures across all sectors and transportation services in the state to ensure that individuals with disabilities can navigate their communities with ease and independence.

Lastly, Sir, please as the Governor with listing ears and who has a great concern and commitment to the development and well-being of the PWDs, you have the power to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities in our state. I urge you to take action to ensure that their voices are heard, their rights are protected, and their needs are met as well as make the PWDs commission a reality.

Accept the assurances of our (PWDs) highest regards and thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Yours Sincerely,
Engr Abdul Haruna. moi, coh,
