The One Kano Agenda has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his historic commitment to support the expansion of the Dangote Refinery from its current capacity of 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day.
The commendation followed the announcement by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during the 19th OTL Africa Downstream Conference held in Lagos, where he revealed the Federal Government’s pledge of full backing for the refinery’s next phase.
In a statement jointly signed by the Director-General, Ambassador Abbas Abdullahi, and the Secretary, Barrister Mukhtar Musa, the One Kano Agenda described President Tinubu’s declaration as a “defining moment in Nigeria’s industrial and economic history.”
According to the group, the decision reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of the Dangote Refinery as a national strategic asset and aligns with the group’s earlier call for unity, restraint, and unwavering national support for the project.
“This bold step is a triumph of patriotism, foresight, and constructive advocacy. It confirms that our nation is strongest when government, private enterprise, and civil society work together toward shared national goals,” the statement read.
The One Kano Agenda further noted that the refinery’s expansion—described by President Tinubu as a “game-changer for Nigeria, West Africa, and the global energy market”—would strengthen Africa’s energy security, reduce import dependency, create millions of jobs, and reinforce Nigeria’s position in the global energy value chain.
The group commended President Tinubu for translating national aspirations into executive action, while also acknowledging Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senator Lokpobiri for their proactive engagement and confidence in the project.
The statement equally paid glowing tribute to Alhaji Aliko Dangote, describing him as a symbol of industrial excellence and courage.
“His decision to expand the refinery to 1.4 million barrels per day, making it the largest in the world, exemplifies bold leadership and enduring faith in Nigeria’s potential,” it added.
The group emphasized that supporting the Dangote Refinery is synonymous with supporting Nigeria’s economic sovereignty, industrial rebirth, and self-reliance. It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting national cohesion, economic innovation, and policies that protect investments and empower youth.
“The success of the Dangote Refinery is the success of Nigeria. Its growth and expansion symbolize the triumph of vision over doubt, unity over division, and progress over pessimism,” the statement concluded.
