As part of the efforts at curbing thuggery, gangsterism, Yan daba fight, phone snatching among other crimes in Kano state, the state government alongside security agencies have commenced profilling of repentant youth that engaged in thuggery and other violent crimes.
The event which was flagged off at the Kano State Police Command, Bompai under the Safe Corridor Project, an initiative of the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf commenced with the profilling of over eighty repentant youh who surrendered willingly, laid down thier arms and denounced violence in the state.
The event attracted heads of security agencies in the state that included: the state Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commander General, State Hisbah Borad, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and the State Commandant, Vigilante group
Others include, the State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed, Dan’Amar Kano, Alhaji Aliyu Umar Harazmi among others.
Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya who doubles as the Coordinator of the Safe Corridor Project expressed the readiness and determination of the state government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to grant amnesty to youth who accept to willingly surrender and denounce violence.
Comrade Waiya revealed that the Safe Corridor Project is a non – kinetic strategy adopted by the state government as part of efforts to end violence and violent crimes in the state adding that ” we are fully committed to this cause and therefore, I call on youth who engage in thuggery to key into this opportunity in order for them to become more useful to themselves and productive to the society. “
On his part, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who endorsed the initiative also commended the state government on the safe Corridor Project and expressed the readiness of his command to fully participate in the process.
Also, in their separate remarks, other heads of security agencies, representatives of the traditional institutions, elderstatesmen, the Ulama all endorsed the safe Corridor Project and urged those that enrolled in the project to invite others who are yet to key into the exercise with a view to ending violence and violent crimes for a safer and more progressive Kano State.
On their part, some of the repentant youh including Buzu and Mai Dangi pledged not only invite others to enroll in the programme but vowed to end thuggery, gang fight and all forms of crimes and criminality in Kano state.
