The Kano State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has concluded arrangements to successfully host the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
This was disclosed by the Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, during a preparatory meeting held with the Honourable Commissioner for Information, representatives of labour unions, and other key stakeholders
Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota stated that the state government is fully committed to organizing a befitting and inclusive May Day celebration that recognizes the invaluable contributions of workers to the development of Kano State.
She emphasized that the collaboration between government and labour unions reflects a shared commitment to promoting workers’ welfare, unity, and productivity across the state.
According to her, the May Day celebration will serve as an opportunity to appreciate the resilience, dedication, and sacrifices of civil servants and the entire workforce.
She further assured that all necessary logistics and security arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth and successful event.
The Head of Service also commended the leadership of the NLC, JNC, and TUC for their continued cooperation and partnership with the government, noting that such synergy is essential for sustainable industrial harmony and progress.
In their separate remarks, representatives of the labour unions and the Honourable Commissioner for Information reaffirmed their readiness to work closely with the government to ensure a successful celebration.
The Kano State head of service therefore calls on all workers and stakeholders to actively participate in the 2026 May Day celebration, as part of efforts to strengthen unity and advance the welfare of workers in the state.
