The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old man for illegal possession of a firearm and impersonation during a patrol operation in Kurfi Local Government Area.
According to the command, the suspect, identified as Mubarak Bello of Kofar Yamma quarters, Kurfi, was intercepted at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number Lagos GGE 473 BH.
Police said Bello failed to give a satisfactory explanation about himself and the vehicle, which led officers to search the car. Items recovered during the operation include:
A locally fabricated rifle
Four live cartridges
Two expended shells
A fake police identity card
An extra plate number (Kano FGE 68)
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, noted that the arrest was made possible through heightened vigilance and proactive patrols by the command’s operations department.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine how he obtained the firearm, the fake ID card, and other recovered items.
Police authorities assured residents that security measures have been strengthened to curb criminal activities across the state.
