The Kano State Judicial Service Commission under the Chairmanship Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, at its 87th Meeting held on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, considered several matters brought before it and approved key administrative decisions in furtherance of its mandate to strengthen efficiency, discipline and professionalism within the judiciary.
According to the statement issued by Baba Jibo Ibrahim ( Spokesman Kano State Judiciary) said during the meeting, Chairman informed the Commission that the substantive Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice Kano, Hajara Garba Ahmed, retired from service on 11th November 2025.
Following this development and after due deliberation, the Commission approved the acting appointment of Hussein Hassan Suleiman, the current Director Public Prosecutions at the Ministry of Justice, as Acting Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Kano State.
Conveying the approval, the Secretary of the Commission, Amina Bashir Albasu, stated that the appointment of H. H. Suleiman is in recognition of his hard work, humility, commitment, integrity and dedication to duty.
The Commission expressed confidence that he will discharge the responsibilities of the office diligently and uphold the values of the judiciary.
Similarly, the Commission approved the appointment of 30 Sharia Court Judges who sat for the examinations and interviews and were duly qualified for appointment.
At the same meeting, Magistrate Dayyabu Haruna, whose transfer of service from Kaduna State as Magistrate Grade I had earlier been approved by the Commission, was also considered.
The Commission has approved his swearing-in and oath-taking in line with constitutional provisions and Magistrate Dayyabu Haruna was duly sworn in by the Chief Judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki.
At the same meeting, the Commission considered the report of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission investigating a case of an alleged criminal conspiracy, perjury and gratification by a staff of the judiciary whom is alleged to have collected the sum of ₦39,000.00 (Thirty Nine Thousand Naira only) which facilitated issuance of three plain affidavit for the lost of title document in respect of plots of land that was used to secure the re-issuance of another document for the same plots of land, and the response submitted by the staff Ado Musa Koki regarding the allegations.
The Commission reviewed the officer’s response to the query issued to him where he admitted receiving the sum of ₦39,000, explaining that the money was intended for newspaper publication and the processing of a police report.
After careful deliberation, the Commission observed that although the officer does not consistently remain at his duty post, he has not been found wanting in the discharge of his official responsibilities.
Nevertheless, the Commission viewed his conduct as inappropriate. In line with its disciplinary mandate and commitment to maintaining integrity within the judiciary, the Commission approved that the officer be placed on half salary for a period of three (3) months, effective from the date of the decision and was issued a strong warning to desist from such conduct henceforth and to remain dedicated, disciplined and upright in the discharge of his duties.
The Commission emphasized that any recurrence of similar behaviour will attract more severe disciplinary sanctions.
The Judicial Service Commission reiterates its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of discipline, accountability and ethical conduct among judiciary staff.
The Commission remains dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of the judicial arm of government and ensuring that all officers uphold the trust reposed in them by the people of Kano State
