A Vision For Digital Kano As A Global E-Commerce HUB.

A CALL TO KANO STATE GOVERNOR HIS EXCELLENCY ENGR ABBA K YUSUF.

I write this open letter as a concerned citizen to our esteemed Executive Governor with affection and respectfulness to humbly propose – “DIGITAL KANO”, A Vision For Kano State As A Global E-Commerce Hub.

Sir,you have made significant strides in education, health & infrastructure development for economic growth therefore, Kano Tumbin Giwa must evolve to compete in the digital age ensuring its agricultural heritage, crafts, minerals, industries, products, etc, are accessible for global trade.

The Golden Opportunity For Kano In Global E-Commerce.

In today’s new Global E-Commerce, speed to the world markets with goods plus lower shipping costs are the main drivers that attract foreign trade & investments. With the emerging of Dala Inland Dryport IDP,Kano-Maradi Railway Line, the AKK Gas,Kano Electricity Power Initiative, Online-Taxation,the reopening of the Garment Industry Clusters, and the Kano Economic City comprising a Textile Hub, a Pharmaceutical Hub & ICT Hub, truly, the state future economic growth is very bright.

Recommendations Strategies For Restructuring And Mandate.

1.Restructuring Of Key Ministries,Departments And Agencies (MDAs).

To streamline operations and enhance productivity, the state’s MDAs, including the Ministry of Commerce,Agriculture, Finance, KIRS, KASMA, KACCIMA, KSIP, and Kanlnvest, should be restructured to have a UNIFIED team of digital commerce experts specifically appointed to focus on global sales strategies, online marketing, and e-commerce technologies.

2. Startup A Global E-Commerce Platform – “Digital Kano”.

Appoint a Director with a fixed term who would oversee the “Digital Kano” operations as a an independent, nonpartisan agency responsible for cybersecurity, auditing, evaluating, and investigating activities ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with laws and regulations between the state, local governments, businesses, and clients to align policies and practices with sustainable economic growth,independence and objectivity.

3.Establishment Of Warehousing And Packaging Facilities.

Establish PPP agreement to set up state-of-the-art packaging and storage facilities within the Duty-free PANISAU Export/Import processing zone to ensure “Made in Kano” products meet international packaging standards, making them more competitive and appealing globally.

4.Leveraging Data & ICT Hub For Global Connectivity.

The growing youth population could become a strong workforce in IT, e-commerce, digital entrepreneurship and should be fully utilized to ensure the state’s businesses are connected 24/7 globally for online marketing, product listings, customer interactions and ensuring products are always visible to customers worldwide and in consent with e-business, e-business infrastructure and e-commerce of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy blueprint.

5.Provide Support For Business Growth & Sustainable Development.

Encourage the growth of local businesses, provide access to capital grants and develop online business innovations trainings in collaboration with the office of state ICT Director and SSA ICT to enhance Kano’s entrepreneurs & businesses to compete in smart content digital marketing strategy of the 21st century global digital economy.

6.Policy Reform For Attracting Foreign Investment.

Simplify business laws, reduce bureaucratic barriers, and create incentives for foreign direct investment (FDI) to implement a “minimum government, maximum governance” policy through the unified “Digital Kano” for easy transactions, transparency, efficiency, financial inclusion and ease of doing business.

7.Reactivate And Strengthen Local Microfinance Banks.(Proposal Available).

Reactivate and strengthen Microfinance Banks in all local governments to support rural entrepreneurs,small-scale farmers, mining, businesses and connected with global markets through the integrated e-commerce platform to enable smooth international transactions.

8.Agribusiness.

Agriculture remains the backbone of the state rural economy and the KSADP and Sassakawa initiatives,offers significant potential for rural development. Hence, strengthen the agricultural value chain

especially value addition through agro-processing, storage, packaging and export which will boost up the Kano’s Agribusiness that is promising with numerous opportunities for growths.

Lastly, I am urging His Excellency to assign priority to this transformative vision into reality, repositioning Kano as not ONLY, the “Centre of Commerce” but, as a “Global E-Commerce Hub” that unlock Kano’s full economic prospects and boost jobs creation, under Engr. Abba K. Yusuf leadership.
