Troops of Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector II, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dislodged terrorists and recovered high-calibre weapons, ammunition and motorcycles during clearance operations in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation was part of the ongoing offensive efforts to clear terrorist enclaves and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the North-West.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector II, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops advanced through identified terrorist threat enclaves, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis.
The statement said that upon reaching the Magarya Forest enclave, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
It added that follow-up operations and a thorough search of the general area led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms, ammunition and mobility assets.
Items recovered included one PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles, and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items.
The Nigerian Army said the troops have maintained a strong operational presence in the area to ensure the security of surrounding communities and sustain pressure on terrorist elements operating within the axis.
