Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This announcement was made by Kaduna Governor Uba Sani at a rally held in Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna.
Among the notable defectors are Suleiman Hunkuyi, the 2023 NNPP governorship candidate; Muktar Ramalan Yero, a former Kaduna governor; and Sani Shaaban, a former House of Representatives member.
Other defectors include Danjuma Tela Laah, Abubakar Mustapha, and several others.
These defectors were previously leaders in the NNPP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to Governor Uba Sani, they joined the APC due to his administration’s “inclusive and people-centred policies and programmes.”
Governor Uba Sani welcomed the new members, thanking them for joining the APC. He assured them of his support to ensure a smooth transition into the party. The governor also urged party stakeholders to remain committed to the party’s ideals.
Shehu Sani had previously resigned from the APC in 2018 due to controversies surrounding the party’s primaries for the 2019 elections. He then joined the PDP but lost the 2019 senatorial election to Governor Uba Sani.
In 2023, Uba Sani became governor with the support of former Governor Nasir el-Rufai. However, their relationship later soured.
