The Chairman of the Safe Corridor Initiative in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Salisu Angui Zango, has reaffirmed the commitment of members of the initiative to work closely with the Kano State Government to ensure the success of its efforts to end thuggery and promote lasting peace across the state.

Zango made this known on Thursday during a press briefing at the Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC), where he urged youths in Kano to renounce daba (thuggery) and embrace peaceful and law-abiding lifestyles.

He explained that the Safe Corridor Initiative was established to rehabilitate, reform, and reintegrate youths who voluntarily abandoned violence, stressing that its members are fully committed to supporting government policies aimed at restoring security and social stability.

According to him, the initiative remains a key partner in the government’s peace-building strategy, noting that sustainable peace can only be achieved when youths are guided away from criminality and empowered with opportunities for personal development and economic independence.

Speaking on behalf of youths who surrendered their weapons under the programme, leaders of the group reiterated their resolve to remain peaceful and to contribute meaningfully to the success of the Safe Corridor Initiative and the broader security objectives of the Kano State Government.

They disclosed that although they had completed screening exercises at the Kano State Police Command, coordinated by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, the support packages promised to them were yet to be fully implemented.

The group, however, expressed confidence in the government’s commitment and appealed for the timely fulfilment of the pledged interventions, which include vocational training, educational support, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

They emphasized that the delivery of these commitments would strengthen their resolve to remain law-abiding and would further demonstrate the government’s determination to ensure the long-term success of the Safe Corridor Initiative in Kano State.
