More than 20 people have reportedly been killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the attack occurred between midnight on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with the assailants reportedly moving through the community and attacking residents in their homes.
Residents said the attackers operated for hours, moving from house to house and targeting people in their homes. Some residents were reportedly injured and taken to hospitals for treatment, while others were said to be missing.
An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, told journalists that more than 20 deaths had been recorded, while another resident, John Dalyop, said injured victims were receiving medical treatment.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over insecurity in Mangu and other vulnerable communities across Plateau State. Details of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the attack are still emerging.
