The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has removed Comrade Zangina Mohammed Kura as Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel with immediate effect following his exit from journalism service and his participation as a political candidate in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Jigawa State Council made this known in a statement issued on Sunday.

This decision follows complaints received by the Council and credible evidence confirming that Comrade Zangina Mohammed Kura has exited active journalism and is currently contesting for the position of Member representing Kura/Garin Malam State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 General Elections.

This action aligns with the provisions of the NUJ Constitution, particularly Articles 5, 7, and 8, which address professional ethics, disciplinary measures, and sanctions against misconduct and anti-union activities that could tarnish the Union’s reputation.

Partisan political participation by a serving Union officer undermines the neutrality, integrity, and professional standards of the NUJ, contravening the ethical principles of journalism practice.

In accordance with resolutions from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union, members engaging in partisan political activities or accepting political appointments must relinquish their Union positions to maintain the organization’s non-partisan character.

Therefore, Comrade Zangina Mohammed Kura is directed to immediately hand over all official responsibilities, records, documents, and properties of the Correspondents’ Chapel to the Vice Chairman pending further directives.

Failure to comply will result in referral to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee for further action as per the NUJ Constitution.

Accordingly, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, Civil Society Organizations, Security Agencies and the general public are advised to cease dealings with Zangina Muhammad Kura as Chairman of Correspondents Chapel.

The NUJ Jigawa State Council reaffirms its commitment to upholding professionalism, ethical journalism, neutrality, and the constitutional principles of the Union.
