The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that the smoke incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, was not caused by a fire.

In a statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, as a follow-up to its earlier advisory on the incident, the agency said preliminary findings showed that no fire occurred at the terminal.

According to FAAN, the smoke observed in the affected area was caused by the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system. The agency said investigations are ongoing to determine why the suppression system was activated in the first place.
