The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command, under the leadership of it’s commander, CN D Y Lawal in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), on Wednesday 29th January, 2026, carried out a sensitization and advocacy visit to the Kurmawa Correctional Centre as part of efforts to combat drug abuse and promote rehabilitation.

The visit was focused on educating inmates about the dangers and long-term consequences of substance abuse.

The engagement featured a novelty football match between inmates of the Kurmawa Correctional Centre and the NDLEA team, popularly known as “Marwa’s Boys.” The friendly match, which ended 2–1 in favour of the inmates, fostered positive interaction, teamwork, and mutual understanding, underscoring the shared commitment of both agencies to rehabilitation through constructive engagement.

Following the match, NDLEA officers addressed the inmates on the harmful effects of drug abuse. A practical demonstration illustrated how illicit substances destroy materials rapidly, explaining that similar damage occurs within the human body when drugs are abused.

The officers warned that substance abuse fuels crime, leads to severe health complications, destroys families, and often results in irreversible loss.

In his remarks, CN DY Lawal stressed that drug abuse ruins lives, derails opportunities, and undermines societal development. He noted that the sensitization exercise aligns with the NDLEA’s broader strategy, in partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service, to curb drug abuse through education, advocacy, and rehabilitation.

He also announced a personal donation of reasonable amount of money and presented items including foodstuffs, jerseys, footballs, and other materials to support inmate welfare and recreation.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Kurmawa Correctional Centre, DCC II Rambo, commended the NDLEA for the impactful visit and strong inter-agency collaboration. He expressed appreciation for the sensitization programme and donations, announcing an additional money for the contribution. The event concluded with group photographs and was further enlivened by the participation of former international footballer and Kano Pillars legend, _Ahmed Garba “Yaro Yaro,”_ highlighting the unifying power of sports in promoting discipline, rehabilitation, and drug-free living.
