NDLEA Kano Command Commemorates 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse With Inter-agency Tug Of War Competition

As part of activities marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, under the leadership of CN DY Lawal, organized an Inter-Agency Tug of War Competition aimed at promoting unity, teamwork, and collective commitment in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The event brought together participants from various sister security and government agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Army, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as representatives from secondary schools, tertiary institutions, LASPESDA, WADA, and other stakeholders. The competition was conducted in three categories: Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions, and Military/Para-Military Agencies.

The competition provided a platform for participants to strengthen inter-agency collaboration while creating awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and the need for a united front against illicit drug trafficking. The event was characterized by enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among the participating teams. In the Secondary Schools category, Prime College emerged as the winner. Kano State Polytechnic secured first position in the Tertiary Institutions category. In the Military/Para-Military category, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) emerged as the overall winner, while NDLEA came second and the Nigerian Army finished in third position.

In his closing remarks, the Commander, NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, commended all participating agencies and institutions for their active involvement and unwavering support towards the success of the event. He emphasized that the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking requires collective action from all stakeholders and urged participants to sustain the spirit of cooperation beyond the competition. He further reaffirmed the Commandโ€™s commitment to strengthening partnerships and intensifying drug demand reduction efforts towards building a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
