1. POLICE ARREST 23 SUSPECTS, RESCUE 7 VICTIMS ACROSS 10 STATES
The Nigeria Police Force has reported fresh security operations across 10 states.
According to the police, 23 suspects were arrested for various offences, including alleged kidnapping, terrorism-related activities, murder and cult-related crimes.
The police also reported the rescue of seven victims and the recovery of weapons and other items suspected to have been stolen.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts by the police to combat crime through intelligence-led operations and cooperation with other security agencies.
2. TROOPS RESCUE SIX UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AND DRIVER IN KATSINA
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, together with a driver, following an attack on a commercial vehicle in Katsina State.
The incident occurred around the Daye–Malumfashi axis in Danmusa Local Government Area.
According to the military report, troops responded after receiving a distress call. The suspected kidnappers fled when the troops arrived, leaving the victims behind.
The seven rescued persons were reportedly found safe and were handed over to the relevant authorities.
3. NIGERIAN ARMY CONTINUES RESCUE AND COUNTER-TERRORISM OPERATIONS
A Defence Headquarters report stated that Nigerian troops rescued 50 kidnapped victims and apprehended suspected terrorists, collaborators and other criminal elements during operations conducted between 11 and 17 September 2026.
The report covered military operations in different parts of the country.
The operations remain focused on disrupting criminal activities, responding to attacks and rescuing persons held by criminal groups.
4. NDLEA SEIZES ILLICIT DRUGS WORTH OVER ₦3.4 BILLION
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, reported the seizure of more than 1.3 million tramadol and other opioid pills, as well as nearly 6,000 kilogrammes of various cannabis consignments.
The agency said the combined value of the seized drugs exceeded ₦3.4 billion.
Among the major seizures was 603.75 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud intercepted at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos, which NDLEA valued at ₦1.811 billion.
The agency also reported arrests linked to drug trafficking operations in several states and Abuja.
5. NDLEA ARRESTS SUSPECTED FAKE POLICE OFFICER IN DRUG TRAFFICKING CASE
In Delta State, NDLEA reported the arrest of a 49-year-old man suspected of impersonating a senior police officer to evade security checks while transporting illicit drugs.
The agency said the suspect was arrested along the Benin–Onitsha road with 292.48 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in his vehicle.
NDLEA said a suspected fake police identification card was also recovered from him.
6. EFCC URGES LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN TO ENSURE PUBLIC FUNDS BENEFIT CITIZENS
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has urged local government chairmen to ensure that increased allocations received by local governments translate into projects and services that benefit citizens.
Olukoyede made the statement in Abuja during a national gathering of local government chairmen and traditional rulers.
He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability and responsible management of public resources at the local government level.
In a separate performance figure covering October 2023 to July 2026, the EFCC Chairman said the commission had recovered more than ₦1.233 trillion in proceeds of crime.
7. EFCC CASE: EVIDENCE PRESENTED OVER ALLEGED TRANSFER OF BAUCHI FUNDS TO PRIVATE COMPANY
The trial of Bauchi State Accountant-General Sirajo Muhammed Jaja and other defendants continued at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
During the proceedings, a bank official gave evidence concerning transactions involving Bauchi State government funds and an account belonging to JASFAD Resources Enterprises.
The EFCC is prosecuting the defendants over allegations including diversion of public funds and other financial offences involving about ₦1.635 billion.
Alfijir Labarai stresses that these remain allegations being tested before the court and do not constitute a final conviction.
8. APPEAL COURT RULES ON FORMER EFCC CHAIRMAN IBRAHIM MAGU’S TENURE
The Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that the prolonged tenure of former EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu in an acting capacity was unlawful.
The appellate court set aside an earlier Federal High Court decision that had upheld the continuation of his tenure.
The case concerns the former leadership of the EFCC and should not be confused with current investigations or operations of the commission.
9. POLICE INTENSIFY PREPARATIONS FOR 2027 ELECTION SECURITY
The Nigeria Police Force has continued discussions on strategies for securing the 2027 general elections.
Areas of focus include intelligence gathering, community engagement, the use of technology and measures to protect voters, election officials and election materials.
Election security remains one of the major responsibilities facing the security agencies as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
10. DEATHS OF 37 DETAINEES IN NIGER: INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
The reported deaths of 37 detainees in Niger State remain under investigation.
The Federal Government constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The government also released the names of suspended officers linked to the matter pending the outcome of the investigation.
The detainees were reportedly being held in connection with allegations relating to illegal mining activities.
The committee is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding their arrest, detention and deaths.
Until the investigation is concluded, the circumstances surrounding the deaths should be treated as a matter under official investigation.

The Nigeria Police Force handles a wide range of crimes affecting communities, while the military conducts specialised operations in areas facing serious security threats.
The NDLEA is responsible for combating illicit drug trafficking, while the EFCC focuses on economic and financial crimes.
The ICPC focuses on combating corruption and strengthening preventive measures against corrupt practices.
