Former Kano State Governor and Kwankwasiyya political leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is willing to forgive and reconcile with Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, despite the political differences that have emerged between them.
Kwankwaso made the remarks during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he spoke about his relationship with Governor Abba Yusuf.
During the interview, Kwankwaso said he had not rejected Governor Abba Yusuf and that he still had affection for him.
He stressed the importance of forgiveness, patience and compassion, suggesting that political differences should not necessarily prevent reconciliation.

KWANKWASO AND ABBA YUSUF’S POLITICAL RELATIONSHIP
Abba Kabir Yusuf won the 2023 Kano State governorship election on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), with the backing of the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by Kwankwaso.
The political relationship between the two later changed after Governor Abba Yusuf left the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2026.

KANO GOVERNMENT ALSO SAYS ITS DOOR IS OPEN
Following Kwankwaso’s remarks, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the state government was also open to reconciliation.
Waiya said the Kano government still regarded Kwankwaso as a father figure and that if Kwankwaso’s door was open, the government’s door was also open.

NO CONFIRMED RECONCILIATION YET
Despite the statements from both sides, there has been no official announcement confirming that Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Yusuf have held a reconciliation meeting or reached a political agreement.
What has been established so far is that Kwankwaso has expressed his willingness to reconcile, while the Kano State Government has also indicated that it is open to such an initiative.
For that reason, the development is more accurately described as an opening for dialogue rather than a completed reconciliation.
WHY THE DEVELOPMENT MATTERS
Kwankwaso’s statement has renewed attention on the political relationship between the former governor and Governor Abba Yusuf, particularly as political alignments in Kano continue to evolve.
However, the actual outcome will depend on whether the two sides eventually engage directly and agree on the issues that have contributed to their political differences.
