Kano Govt Unveils Digital Multimedia Department,  Inaugurates Forum Of Public Enlightenment And Public Relations Directors

Says Modern Governance Requires Strong Digital Communication Infrastructure

The Kano State Government has unveiled Digital Multimedia Department under the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs as part of efforts to strengthen government communication, promote transparency, and enhance public engagement through modern digital platforms.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this known during the unveiling and inauguration ceremony held on Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Audu Bako Secretariat, Kano.

Comrade Waiya described the establishment of the Department as a major institutional reform aimed at addressing communication gaps between government and citizens in an increasingly digital world.

According to him, the new Department was conceived following extensive consultations and institutional assessments which revealed the urgent need for a dedicated structure to effectively document government programmes, showcase achievements, disseminate policies, and combat misinformation through timely and credible official communication.

“The Digital Multimedia Department represents our response to the growing demand for modern, efficient and professional government communication. It will ensure that the voice of government remains visible, accessible and authoritative across all communication platforms,” he stated.

The Commissioner noted that the Department would serve as a central platform for content creation, digital engagement, documentation of government activities, online publishing, and strategic media management.

Comrade Waiya commended the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for approving the creation of the Department, describing the decision as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to responsive governance and effective public communication under the Kano First Agenda.

The occasion also witnessed the formal inauguration of the Forum of Directors of Public Enlightenment and Public Relations Officers drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the state.

He explained that the Forum was established to promote coordination, professional collaboration, information sharing, and strategic alignment among communication officers in the state.

In a gesture of support towards strengthening the activities of the newly inaugurated Forum of Directors of Public Enlightenment and Public Relations Officers, the  Commissioner announced a donation of One Million Naira.

In their goodwill messages, Professor Nura Ibrahim, Associate Professor Hassan Alhaji Ya’u, Dr. Saminu Umar Rigiyar Zaki of the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University Kano, Chairman of the Heads of Media Organizations Forum, Ado Sa’idu Warawa, Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mustapha Gambo, and the Chairman of the Forum of Directors of Public Enlightenment and Public Relations Officers, commended the  Commissioner and the Kano State Government for establishing the Digital Multimedia Department in the Ministry, noting that the initiative would significantly enhance the state’s digital communication strategy and strengthen information dissemination to the public.
