Following the submission of a security report by the Department of State Services (DSS) on renewed threats to law and order arising from a supremacy tussle at the Ihya’us Sunnah Juma’at Mosque in Gwammaja Community of Dala Local Government Area, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the inauguration of a Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee.

Inaugurating the committee in his office today, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, explained that the committee is mandated to unravel both the remote and immediate causes of the lingering conflict between the Chief Imam of the Mosque, Malam Abubakar Lawan Goron-Maje, and the major benefactor and stakeholder of the mosque, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba. He emphasized the need to maintain peace, harmony, and decorum within the mosque community and appealed to the feuding parties to sheath their swords and uphold the teachings of Islam, which prioritize peace and mutual respect pending the outcome of the committee’s report.

Alhaji Umar Faruk further noted that conflicts are natural in human society and, when properly managed, often pave the way for deeper understanding and sustainable development. He assured that the committee was carefully selected and entrusted with the responsibility of conducting its assignment with the highest sense of fairness and integrity.

The committee is chaired by the Hon. Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Auwal, and comprises eight members drawn from key institutions and stakeholders. They include Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, Hon. Commissioner for Commerce, Investment and Cooperatives, who also serves as Secretary of the Shura Council; Hon. Surajo Ibrahim Imam, Executive Chairman of Dala Local Government Council; and Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Maihula, Chairman of the Kano State Hisbah Board. Others are a representative of the Council of Ulama and Alhaji Aminu Baba Tafida, Director of Political Affairs in the Cabinet Office.

The committee’s secretariat is led by Muhammad Yusuf, Under Secretary in the Office of the SSG, while Isah Yakubu Karaye, Principal Assistant Secretary in the same office, serves as co-secretary.

With a time frame of four weeks, the committee is expected to invite the disputing parties, examine the circumstances surrounding the conflict, assess the roles of any internal or external influencers, facilitate dialogue, and ultimately recommend practical solutions aimed at resolving or mitigating the dispute.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, the chairman, Hon. Ahmad Tijjani Auwal, expressed gratitude to the state government for the confidence reposed in them to handle such a sensitive but important assignment. He prayed for Allah’s guidance and sought public support for the successful execution of their mandate.
