Kano Government Reiterates Commitment to Strengthening MNCH and Family Planning Financing.

Kano State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Family Planning Financing through enhanced stakeholder collaboration, public engagement, and strategic information dissemination.

This was highlighted during a Roundtable Discussion on MNCH and Family Planning Financing organized by the Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget in collaboration with the Kano State Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM), held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.

Speaking during the engagement, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Abdul Ajumawa called for coordination among the critical stakeholders in supporting of MNCH financing.

He also lamented that the Kano State
Government has continued to spend billions of naira on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health programmes as well as Family Planning initiatives, but many citizens remain unaware of these efforts due to inadequate dissemination of Information.

He emphasized the critical role of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in ensuring that government interventions and investments in the health sector are adequately communicated to the public.

He urged the health sector to deliberately co-opt the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in its programmes and activities to bridge the communication gap and enhance public awareness on government achievements, policies and interventions in the health sector.

Ajumawa further stated that effective information management and public sensitization are essential in promoting community participation, improving healthcare outcomes and building public trust in government programmes.
He also thanked KanSLAM for calling for such discussions to look for way out.

In her remarks, the Family Planning Coordinator, Mansura Yahaya Haruna, expressed appreciation for the timely engagement and assured participants that all identified gaps and challenges discussed during the meeting would be adequately addressed to ensure smooth operations and improved service delivery across the state.
Also speaking, the Co-Chair of KanSLAM, Maimuna Yakubu Muhd, stressed that coordination remains the key to achieving sustainable success in the implementation of MNCH and Family Planning programmes calling for stronger synergy among government agencies, development partners, civil society organizations, media stakeholders and community structures to achieve the desired objectives.

The roundtable discussion brought together representatives from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, media organizations, civil society groups and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable financing strategies and collaborative approaches toward improving healthcare delivery in the State.
The meeting was rounded up with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, accountability and advocacy efforts aimed at advancing maternal and child healthcare services and family planning initiatives across State.
