The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has commended the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, for his respect for the law and compliance with directives issued by security authorities.

Bakori made the commendation shortly after paying a courtesy visit to Emir Bayero at his palace in Nasarawa, Kano. The visit followed a formal notification earlier submitted by the Emir informing security authorities of his intention to embark on a horse-riding procession to Yakasai on Thursday to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony.

Speaking at the palace, Bakori said the purpose of the visit was to appeal to the Emir to suspend the planned horse ride in the interest of peace and public safety. He explained that although security authorities had required anyone intending to undertake a public horse-riding or Durbar activity to give at least 72 hours’ prior written notice, the authorities were now appealing for the planned horse ride to be cancelled altogether.

The Commissioner appealed to Emir Bayero to travel to the event by vehicle, as he had traditionally done, stressing that the security agencies were concerned about preventing anything that could create tension or threaten public peace in Kano.

Bakori described Emir Bayero as a law-abiding traditional ruler who had consistently respected security directives and prioritised peace. He also appealed to Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba and a Senior Councillor to the Emir of Kano, to continue supporting the Emir and encouraging cooperation with security authorities.

Responding, Emir Bayero thanked the Commissioner and his delegation for the visit and assured them of his full cooperation. He said the peace and stability of Kano remained a priority and that he would continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining public order.

The Kano emirate dispute has previously led to heightened security deployments around the palace occupied by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. In December 2024, security operatives barricaded the entrance to Gidan Rumfa Palace, restricting movement in and out of the premises and preventing the Emir from attending a planned royal ceremony in Bichi.

Security analysts in Kano have commended Commissioner Bakori for the diplomatic approach he adopted in addressing the situation, describing it as a measured and constructive way of preventing tension while preserving the dignity of the traditional institution. They said his decision to engage the Emir directly and seek his cooperation demonstrates the practical value of dialogue and community policing in maintaining peace and public order.
