The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in its June operational report released on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the report, the agency responded to 30 fire outbreaks, seven rescue operations and one false alarm across the 44 local government areas of the state during the period under review.
It stated that five persons lost their lives in various fire and emergency incidents, while three others were rescued by firefighters.
The report further revealed that property worth ₦120.45 million was destroyed, while firefighters’ swift intervention helped save assets valued at ₦481.8 million.
Reacting to the development, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to adopt safety measures when handling fire to prevent avoidable disasters.
He advised residents to ensure that all fire sources are properly put out after use.
“We urge members of the public to exercise caution when using fire and ensure that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable fire outbreaks,” Anas said.
The director also cautioned parents and guardians to monitor their children during the rainy season to prevent drowning incidents.
He warned against allowing children to play around puddles, ponds, rivers and uncovered wells.
Anas assured that the agency would continue to strengthen emergency response operations, public safety awareness and collaboration with communities to protect lives and property across the state.
