Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State will officially launch the fifth phase of gratuity payments on Wednesday, September 24, 2024, disbursing ₦5 billion to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers who served between 2017 and 2019.
This announcement was made in a statement issued to the press by Ibrahim Adam, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information.
Adam revealed that the administration has already settled ₦22 billion out of the ₦48 billion backlog of unpaid retirement and death benefits inherited from the previous administration led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
During the fourth phase, which involved a ₦6 billion payout, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the initiative is part of his broader commitment to address long-standing financial obligations and reposition Kano State as a model of responsible governance.
“The settlement of these outstanding gratuities and death benefits not only alleviates the hardship faced by affected families but also reaffirms our administration’s promise to restore trust in government and uphold social justice,” Adam stated.
Ibrahim Adam announced that next Wednesday’s event which is the fifth will mark the settlement of outstanding gratuity payments between 2017 and 2019.
He said the Governor made payment for some retirees of 2017 and 2019 and by next week he will complete their backlog.
