At about 01:35 am, the Kano State Fire Service received an emergency call from the Jakara police division, alerting them to a fire incident at Kurmi Market in the Jakara Yan Jagwal area.
The crew on duty from the agency’s headquarters was promptly mobilized to the scene.
Upon arrival according to the statement, they found that some shops in the market had caught fire, resulting in six shops being well alight, while five shops sustained minor damage without being completely burnt down.
The crew team successfully contained the fire to the affected shops, saving the remaining shops in the area. Several items worth millions of Naira were saved during the operation.
According to a statement signed by the public relations officer, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, “The fire was successfully contained to the only affected shops in the market, and the remaining shops around the area were saved.”
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service Commission, Alh. Sani Anas, received the alert at the agency’s main control room on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Notably, a similar incident occurred in the same market on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Consequently, the department will investigate the cause of both fire incidents to determine the real cause and prevent future occurrences.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of life reported.
