A commercial seven-storey building was yesterday gutted by fire in Iddo Lagos Island.

This is contained in a statement by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Adeseye. Adeseye stated that the fire, which was caused by rising room temperature, started about 10 am.

She added that the incident started from the archival room of the building that houses commercial banks, a bottling company, and other businesses.

β€œA fire outbreak on the first floor of a seven-storey commercial building belonging to AG Leventis, Iddo House, Iddo, via Oyingbo, Lagos, has been extinguished by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

β€œThe building, occupied by Nigeria Bottling Company PLC, reported the fire at 10:22 am on Thursday. The fire, which started in an archival room of about 108 square metres on the first floor, was confined to its origin and successfully put out by the combined efforts of the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations of the agency.

β€œWhile investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, preliminary findings suggest self-ignition in the confined archival space due to rising room temperature,” she stated.

However, she noted that no live was lost in the incident.
