The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it will formally charge Kano-based TikTok influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, for alleged abuse and mutilation of the Naira.

Kunya, re-arrested on Sunday, March 16, 2025, after weeks of evading law enforcement, is expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Kano in the coming days.

The EFCC stated that the charges stem from multiple violations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, particularly the provisions prohibiting the spraying, stamping, and mutilation of the Naira.

“The Commission is committed to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s currency. Any individual found engaging in acts that deface or degrade the Naira will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.

The EFCC disclosed that Kunya’s re-arrest followed an operation after she breached the administrative bail granted to her in January 2025. She had failed to appear for her scheduled court proceedings, prompting a manhunt by EFCC operatives.

Sources within the EFCC indicate that the Commission has concluded its and will file a formal charge sheet against her.

“She will be arraigned without further delay to serve as a deterrent to others who flout financial regulations,” an EFCC official added.
