The African Union (AU) has appointed former Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, as Co-chairman of the African Scientific Research and Innovation Council (AU-ASRIC).
In his new role, Pantami will contribute to shaping Africa’s policy and strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), impacting all 54 African countries.
Professor Pantami is a prominent figure in digital innovation, having established the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) and developed Nigeria’s Digital Economy Policy, focusing on emerging technologies.
His leadership in promoting the Fourth Industrial Revolution makes him a key player in Africa’s digital transformation efforts.
Pantami is also the first African Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information Security in the UK, underscoring his influence in the field. He will co-chair the council alongside Professor Anicia Nicola Peter from Namibia, an expert in Human-Computer Interaction and emerging technologies.
The council, comprised of distinguished academics and policymakers, including experts from Tunisia and Morocco, will focus on advancing technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity, driving Africa’s tech evolution.
