With the highest regard and respect, I write this open letter to your esteemed office to humbly draw your attention to critical issues that are adversely affecting primary school education in Kano State. These issues, if not addressed urgently, threaten to undermine the progress of your administration, particularly in the education sector.
Primary education serves as the foundation of any developed society, and its neglect endangers the future of our children and the state as a whole. Regrettably, the following pressing matters require your urgent intervention to salvage the sector:
1. Unauthorized Salary Deductions:
It has come to our attention that primary school teachers in Kano State have repeatedly experienced unauthorized deductions from their salaries. A glaring example is the December 2024 salary, where several teachers reported unexplained deductions, leaving them financially strained during a critical period. Such deductions not only cause hardship but also erode trust in the administration.
2. Irregular Salary Payments:
Another significant issue is the inconsistency in salary payments among primary school teachers. While some teachers receive their salaries promptly, others are forced to wait for two weeks or even longer before receiving theirs. This disparity creates unnecessary hardship and fosters resentment among teachers. A unified and timely salary payment system is crucial to maintaining the morale of the workforce.
3. Discrimination Against Primary School Teachers:
Primary school teachers continue to face discrimination in the implementation of the minimum wage scale. While other government employees enjoy its full implementation, primary school teachers are subjected to partial or improper application. This disparity is unjust and undermines the value of their contributions to society.
4. Differentiation in Wage Scales:
The unjust differentiation in wage scales between state staff and primary school teachers is another major concern. Teachers, who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our children, should not be treated as inferior to other employees in terms of salary and benefits.
Recommendations:
To address these pressing concerns, I respectfully request your Excellency to:
Investigate and resolve the issue of unauthorized salary deductions, particularly the December 2024 case.
Ensure the prompt and uniform payment of salaries to all primary school teachers.
Implement the minimum wage scale fairly and equitably across all sectors, including primary school teachers.
Establish parity in wage scales between state staff and primary school teachers.
Your Excellency, I trust in your commitment to fairness, equity, and the development of Kano State. Addressing these issues will not only restore the confidence of teachers but also strengthen the foundation of education in the state for the benefit of current and future generations.
Thank you for your attention and anticipated action. I remain confident in your leadership and dedication to the progress of Kano State.
Yours faithfully,
Abdussamad Maji Dadi
