The Kano State Ministry of Higher Education has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising and strengthening the state’s tertiary education sector in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of improving the quality of education and repositioning higher institutions for greater academic excellence.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, stated this shortly after assuming office, where he emphasised the need for strategic reforms, institutional restructuring and deliberate policy measures to establish a sustainable pathway for the advancement of tertiary education in the state.
Professor Malumfashi disclosed that his administration would prioritise comprehensive reforms aimed at repositioning Kano’s universities and other tertiary institutions to compete favourably with their counterparts across the country and internationally. He stressed that the objective was to build institutions capable of delivering quality education, producing globally competitive graduates and contributing meaningfully to research, innovation and human capital development.
The Commissioner further assured the management and leadership of the state’s tertiary institutions of his readiness to work closely with them in addressing institutional challenges, strengthening academic standards and improving operational efficiency.
He emphasised that collaboration between the Ministry and institutional authorities would be central to achieving the Governor’s vision of advancing education at all levels, particularly higher education, as a critical driver of sustainable development.
He commended the Governor for recognising his experience and entrusting him with the responsibility of contributing to the advancement of higher education in Kano State.
“Under my watch, deliberate efforts would be made to revitalise the state’s tertiary education system, strengthen institutional capacity, improve academic standards and create an enabling environment for effective teaching, learning and research” Malumfashi stated.
He further expressed his readiness to work closely with the management of tertiary institutions, academic communities, relevant stakeholders and ministry officials to identify existing challenges and develop sustainable solutions that would improve the overall performance of the sector.
In a statement through his media aide Aminu Bala Madobi, Professor Malumfashi acknowledged and expressed profound appreciation to the political leaders, elders, stakeholders and all other leaders of Madobi Local Government Area for their exceptional goodwill, solidarity and show of support throughout the process. He described their gesture as a remarkable demonstration of unity, mutual respect and collective commitment to the progress of their community.
In another development, Malumfashi also expressed his profound appreciation to the distinguished guests, associates and colleagues from KASECP, Sa’adatu Rimi University, Northwest University, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), and representatives of other tertiary institutions for their remarkable show of goodwill, solidarity and warm reception, describing their presence as a demonstration of mutual respect, professional camaraderie and collective commitment to the advancement of higher education.
