I extend my warmest congratulations to the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, on the historic achievement of Kano State emerging as the highest-ranked sub-national government in education within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
This prestigious recognition, conferred through the University of Paris’ Sub-National Education Spending Index, is a remarkable endorsement of the Governor’s visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and deliberate investment in education as the foundation for sustainable development and long-term prosperity.
That Kano State has been ranked ahead of 209 first-level sub-national governments across the 15 ECOWAS member states is a significant accomplishment. It demonstrates that purposeful leadership, sound policy direction, and the prudent management of public resources can produce measurable results that earn both national and international recognition.
This outstanding achievement is a direct consequence of the bold declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector and the unprecedented budgetary allocations of 29.5 percent in 2024 and 30 percent in 2025. Since assuming office, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has embarked on an ambitious programme of constructing new schools, renovating old and dilapidated classrooms, recruiting and training teachers, and providing essential teaching and learning facilities. These strategic interventions have transformed the education sector and laid a solid foundation for future generations.
This international recognition is not only a victory for the Government of Kano State but also a source of pride for the people of Kano State and Nigeria as a whole. It affirms that sustained investment in education remains one of the most effective pathways to social and economic transformation.
