Reacting on the development, Sa’id Husain Abdullahi recalled that he had earlier observed that while seizures of illicit drugs by the NDLEA were regularly reported, the public seldom heard about their eventual destruction.
According to him, he had advocated for greater publicity of destruction exercises to reassure Nigerians that the dangerous substances had been permanently removed from circulation.
He expressed satisfaction that the Kano Strategic Command had acted in line with that expectation by publicly destroying the seized drugs, describing the exercise as a commendable example of openness and accountability. He noted that such transparency would further assure the public of the agency’s determination to prevent illicit drugs from finding their way back into society.
Abdullahi commended the officers and leadership of the Kano Strategic Command for what he described as an important step, expressing hope that the practice would be sustained and consistently replicated across all NDLEA commands nationwide. He said the initiative not only strengthens public trust in the agency but also sends a clear message that illicit drugs have no place in Nigerian society.
He further stated that constructive criticism deserves constructive response, while commendable actions equally deserve public appreciation. According to him, recognising good performance wherever it occurs encourages public institutions to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Abdullahi concluded by offering prayers for officers engaged in the fight against illicit drugs, praying that Allah would continue to guide and protect all those working tirelessly to rid society of the menace of dangerous drugs.
