The reconciliation process initiated ahead of the 2027 general elections has gathered momentum as the committee constituted by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, commenced meetings with aspirants and stakeholders across various federal constituencies and state assembly seats in the state.
The powerful reconciliation committee, established to address grievances among aspirants within the APC and strengthen party unity ahead of the elections, is chaired by Hon. Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa, while Professor Nura Yaro serves as Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u, among others.
It could be recalled that Governor Yusuf had earlier directed all aspirants seeking elective positions under the APC platform to return to their respective constituencies, engage stakeholders, and work towards producing consensus candidates as part of the first phase of the reconciliation process.
The latest reconciliation effort is aimed at fostering unity among aggrieved aspirants and ensuring collective support for the success of the APC in the 2027 elections.
One of the constituencies attracting significant public attention is the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, owing to the political rivalry between the incumbent lawmaker, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and Salisu Yusha’u, who is also aspiring to contest for the House of Representatives seat.
Stakeholders from the constituency had reportedly endorsed Hon. Doguwa for the 2027 election under the APC, a decision said to have been accepted by Governor Yusuf.
As part of its assignment, the reconciliation committee invited stakeholders and aspirants from the constituency for discussions at the Kano State Government House.
However, the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, alongside her husband, Salisu Yusha’u, failed to honour the committee’s invitation.
Despite their absence, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a six-term member of the House of Representatives, attended the reconciliation meeting.
Speaking on the development, the Secretary of the Committee, Professor Nura Yaro D-Tofa, alongside Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai, confirmed that both Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u were absent from the meeting.
They disclosed that the reconciliation exercise is ongoing at the Kano State Government House and described the process as smooth and successful.
According to them, the committee has so far engaged aspirants and stakeholders from more than seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across the state.
Political observers are already interpreting the absence of Hajiya Sa’adatu, who serves as the Kano State ALGON Chairperson, and her husband, Salisu Yusha’u, despite Governor Yusuf’s directive for all aspirants and stakeholders to participate in the reconciliation process, as a development that may send negative signals within the party.
Some observers believe their failure to honour the invitation could be perceived as a lack of respect for the reconciliation efforts and may fuel speculations that certain aggrieved interests could work against the success and unity of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nevertheless, members of the reconciliation committee expressed optimism that the ongoing consultations would eventually strengthen cohesion within the party and ensure a united front going into the polls.
