Abia Land Commissioner Visits Kano Land, Seeks Collaboration and Partnership

The Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning is setting a benchmark for land administration in Nigeria through an ambitious drive toward digitalization and modernization as it is actively automating its operations, deploying state-of-the-art infrastructure, and positioning itself for global visibility.

The Kano state commissioner for Land and Physical Planning Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar while hosting his counterpart of Abia state said as part of its digital transformation agenda, the Ministry currently manages about 170,000 land files and is conducting a massive data capture exercise aimed at digitizing all the records. This initiative supports the Ministry’s vision to deliver unified digital information on land use in Kano State, ensuring improved efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in land administration.

The Ministry is also distinguished as the only state ministry in Nigeria with a fully digital archive system, a milestone that places Kano State at the forefront of modern land governance. The deployment of advanced digital systems has significantly enhanced service delivery and record management across the Ministry.

The Commissioner represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Town Planner Muhammad Yahuza, urged residents of Kano State with valid land-related complaints to visit the Ministry for proper clarification.

He assured the public that all genuine concerns would be thoroughly reviewed and appropriately addressed in line with established procedures, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and efficient service delivery.

He further stressed the importance of synergy and strong working relationships between the land ministries of Kano and Abia States, noting that such collaboration would promote the exchange of ideas, harmonization of policies, and adoption of best practices.

According to him, enhanced cooperation among Nigerian state ministries of land is critical to strengthening land administration and driving sustainable national development.

“The Ministry has developed a new Kano Master Plan, which has been completed and is now ready for adoption by the State Government. Once adopted and implemented, the Master Plan will serve as a strategic framework to guide sustainable urban development and orderly land use across the state,” said Yahuza.

In a remark, Abia state commissioner of Land and Urban Planning Mr. Chaka Ikenna, during the visit introduced the Ministry’s management staff, many of whom joined the meeting virtually, reflecting the growing role of technology in governance and inter-governmental collaboration.

According to the commissioner, the visit helps in evaluating the existing Geographic Information System (GIS) which guides them in making optimal decisions in Abia. The opportunity was also used to interact and compare our different land administration systems, adding that “It’s an interactive session where we listen and learn from each other.”

“There are different Consultants managing their GIS, and these are prospective consultants that may manage Abia. So, as part of our Evolution process, it was important that we came down and see practically what is on ground, so shows a very positive development, Secondly, very conducive work environment. Thirdly, the efforts being made in digitizing the entire records of the land registry And fourthly, the impacts on digitization on increasing Revenue from one year to another truly commendable,” said Chaka.

“We always collaborate both locally and internationally. So, the process of sharing information and? Looking at what each other is doing in terms a land Administration. We find out that we are rubbing off on each other, and now, like, there’s something mentioned about the titling of shops that is being done in a Kano and all that which is very instructive practice, which I’m taking back to Abia state,” added the commissioner.

The series of initiatives and engagements underscore the Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning’s commitment to modernization, innovation, and responsive governance, reinforcing Kano State’s position as a national leader in digital land administration.
