Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC) is gearing up for a year of bold initiatives and expanded activities in 2026, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, announced on Tuesday.
Waiya made the revelation while receiving a prestigious award from KOMC on behalf of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in recognition of the state government’s steadfast support for media development.
The award was presented during a two-day retreat fully organized and sponsored by the Kano State government, themed “Strengthening Digital Journalism through Ethical Practice and Responsible Online Engagement.” The event aimed to sharpen the skills of journalists and reinforce ethical reporting in the digital era.
Held at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, the retreat attracted a vibrant mix of veteran scholars, media analysts, communication experts, and practicing journalists from across the state.
Sessions included panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and interactive debates designed to equip journalists with cutting-edge insights and tools.
Speaking at the event, Waiya said, “2026 will mark a new chapter for KOMC. We are committed to creating more opportunities, fostering stronger collaborations, and expanding the frontiers of digital journalism across Kano.”
He commended KOMC for the recognition and assured that the government will continue to support, empower, and collaborate with media professionals.
Earlier, KOMC Chairman, Kwamaret Abubakar Dangambo, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of all members, pledging unwavering adherence to ethical standards.
Attendees also lauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as a journalist-friendly leader, whose accessibility and encouragement of responsible reporting have made Kano a hub for media excellence.
