Kano Assembly Re-run/By-elections: Police Arrest 288 Suspected Thugs, Recover Weapons

As CP Bakori expresses concerns over the spate of Violent Thuggery, Electoral Malpractices and heightened security threats:

The Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of *CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis*, has recorded major success in its ongoing efforts to ensure peaceful and credible re-run and by-elections in *Ghari/Tsanyawa* and *Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies*, respectively.

As part of *clearance operations* spearheaded by the *Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES)* , a total of *two hundred and eighty-eight (288) suspected thugs* were arrested today, *Saturday, 16th August 2025*, for various electoral offenses aimed at disrupting the election process.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include:
    – *One pump action rifle*
    – *Four locally made guns*
    – *Dangerous weapons*, such as bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, stones, catapults, clubs, and others.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify their sponsors and collaborators. The Command assures the public that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The *Commissioner of Police*, CP Bakori, has issued a strong warning that *all forms of electoral manipulation, violence, and malpractice will not be tolerated*.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue being *law-abiding* and to cooperate fully with security agencies. Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious activities to the police.
