Democracy thrives on justice, fairness, and respect for structure. When these principles are ignored, discontent is inevitable. What recently transpired within the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) raises serious concerns about equity, administrative logic, and political sincerity.
We state clearly and without hesitation: we will never accept marginalization disguised as party procedure.
The appointment of committees ahead of the official ceremony welcoming His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the APC should have reflected political maturity and administrative propriety. Instead, what we have witnessed is a disturbing contradiction.
How does a serving Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya — the chief spokesperson of the state government and a principal actor in the communication machinery of the administration — get reduced to an ordinary member of the Information Committee, while a former commissioner occupies the chairmanship of the same committee?
This is not just a minor oversight. It is a clear affront to administrative hierarchy and political sensibility.
In governance and party organization, structure matters. Responsibility matters. Current mandate matters. A serving commissioner, by virtue of office, carries institutional authority and operational responsibility. To sideline such an official in a function directly tied to his portfolio sends a troubling message — one that suggests internal politics may be overshadowing fairness and competence.
Let it be known: this is not about personalities. It is about principle.
When party decisions appear to undermine those actively serving in government, it weakens morale, erodes confidence, and creates unnecessary cracks within the fold. For new entrants and loyal stakeholders observing closely, this raises a fundamental question: Is dedication and service truly valued?
APC, as a ruling party with national stature, must rise above actions that project exclusion or favoritism. Political leadership demands sensitivity, especially at a time when unity and consolidation should be the priority.
We therefore call on the National Leadership of the APC and the Kano State leadership to urgently revisit and correct this decision. Silence in the face of obvious imbalance will only deepen perceptions of injustice.
Strong parties are built on justice. Durable alliances are sustained by respect. And political progress can only thrive where fairness is seen, felt, and practiced.
This matter must be addressed — not tomorrow, but now.
The integrity of party leadership demands it.
