The Kano State Ministry of Agriculture under its World Bank Supported LPRES Project has conducted Livestock Management Resources Discussion Platform with Stakeholders. The one day workshop was centred on group discussion by clusters representing the targeted value chain groups which are the focus of the LPRES project.
The Facilitator of the workshop Professor Rabi Ashiru who moderated the Discussion, emphasized on the groups to identify constraints bedevilling the livestock sector by species management and to come up with possible solutions and recommendation for the LPRES Project intervention. She also inform the gathering that she will facilitate the technical visits to some selected state and private owned farms and livestock facilities for physical assessment.
The Kano State Commissioner of Agriculture who was represented by the Director Admin of the Ministry Alhaji Garba Inusa, call on the participants to work with their experience in mapping out ways to improve the livestock sector management.
In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator Dr Salisu Inuwa who also doubled as the Director Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture inform the workshop attendants to discuss intensively on management aspects of livestock, so that informed decision are made at the end.
Participants were drawn from the department of Livestock services of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Officers from KNARDA. Other participants involved Chairmen of Livestock Apex groups including Miyatti Allah, Fuldan, Gam da Katar and academics from Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Audu Bako College of Agriculture Dambatta, Federal Polytechnic Kabo and other institutes.
Also in the workshop, the Director Admin Services of KNARDA who represented the MD KNARDA Dr Farouk Kurawa expressed his appreciation to the LPRES project for creating opportunities to guide and develop capacity of livestock officers in the state.
Dr Ahmad Abubakar, the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist of Kano LPRES project, gave a strategic plan for the training workshop and highlighted the needs for gathering high level intellectual from government side, public, and academics for thorough discussion on ways to improve livestock sector. He mentioned that the World Bank Supported project is aimed to increase production, commercialization and marketing of the Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Poultry in Kano State.
Also in his closure remarks, the Animal Husbandry officer Abubakar Muhammad Kabiru thanks all participants for attending the training workshop. The Gender Based Violence officer of the project Ummi Sarki Abubakar emphasized on women inclusivity in all livestock segments and especially in the areas of the project intervention.
