The Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil, has today 27/1/26 attended a women focused capacity building training organized by the West Picker Association in collaboration with REMASAB and supported by the Kano State Government.
The training, held at Tahir Guess palace, Kano, is aimed at sensitizing and empowering women on proper waste sorting, recycling, and value recovery as a means of promoting environmental cleanliness, sustainable waste management, and income generation. Participants were educated on how recyclable waste materials can be transformed into economic opportunities, thereby contributing to household income and overall community development.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil commended the organizers for their commitment to empowering women and promoting environmental sustainability.
He emphasized that waste should no longer be seen as a nuisance but as a valuable resource that can create jobs and reduce environmental hazards when properly managed.
Dr. Khalil further reaffirmed REMASAB’s commitment to partnering with associations, civil society groups, and development partners to support initiatives that enhance waste management practices and promote inclusive economic growth across the state.
He noted that empowering women in waste recycling aligns with the Kano State Government’s broader vision of environmental protection, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.
The Managing Director encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training and assured them of REMASAB’s continued support in creating an enabling environment for waste based enterprises to thrive.
The event featured practical demonstrations, interactive sessions, and discussions on waste sorting techniques, recycling value chains, and the importance of environmental responsibility at the community level.
