Kaduna: ASUU-KASU Begins Two-Week Warning Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter, has commenced a two-week warning strike over the non-implementation of its demands by the Kaduna State Government.
The industrial action followed a meeting held by the union on Thursday, during which its leaders and members deliberated extensively on the issues affecting the university.
The union said the decision became necessary despite ongoing efforts by the state government to renegotiate its demands.
Hundreds of lecturers who attended the meeting reportedly insisted that they would not be persuaded to accept the N300 million earned allowances approved by the state government, stressing that several other outstanding issues remained unresolved.
Among the issues raised by the union are the implementation of the 25–35 per cent salary agreement, university autonomy, promotion arrears and other outstanding entitlements.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, ASUU-KASU said the decision followed the expiration of its previous two-week warning strike issued on August 12, 2026.
The statement said: “Owing to the expiration of the warning which elapsed today (Thursday), we have to come back to tell members what has so far transpired since we issued the two-week warning on August 12, 2026.
“After serious deliberations, it was agreed that we embark on a two-week warning strike, after which we will come back to take a definite stand. If, at the end of the two weeks, nothing is forthcoming, we have to close the university.”
As of the time of filing this report, the union leaders were still meeting with the negotiation committee set up by the Kaduna State Government to address the lecturers’ demands.
The outcome of the ongoing negotiations is expected to determine the union’s next course of action after the two-week warning strike.
