The WAZOBIA Conflict Resolution and Peace Advocacy Initiative (WACORPAI), in collaboration with WIAPECOR, has officially announced the commencement of the selection process for the 10 Best Performing Governors, 10 Best Performing Senators, and 10 Best Performing Speakers of State Houses of Assembly for the Year 2026.
The annual initiative is designed to recognize and honour public office holders who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, effective governance, and unwavering commitment to public service.
The National Convener, Amb. Dr Garba Suleiman stated that, the awards aim to celebrate excellence while encouraging transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership across Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
WACORPAI reiterated that the assessment will focus on key areas including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and the promotion of national unity. The initiative also seeks to spotlight leaders whose policies and actions have made meaningful contributions to improving the lives of citizens and strengthening democratic governance.
The selection process will feature public nominations, stakeholder consultations, independent assessments, and reviews by a panel of experts, civil society representatives, and faith-based leaders. Organizers noted that public opinion and community feedback will play a significant role in determining the eventual award recipients.
WACORPAI called on Nigerians, the media, and civil society organizations to actively support the initiative, describing it as a platform for promoting good governance, accountability, and national cohesion.
According to him, Amb. Garba Suleiman, The winners will be officially unveiled during the WACORPAI National Leadership & Peace Awards 2026, where outstanding leaders will be honoured for their contributions to peace, development, and exemplary public service.
