The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, today announced the launch of “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” a targeted operation to disrupt and dismantle drug supply networks ahead of the Ramadan fasting period. Led by CN D.Y. Lawal, the operation is focused on strengthening patrol checkpoints, dislodging drug joints within the Kano metropolis and its environs, and cutting off the flow of illicit substances into the state.

At the launch of the operation, on the 12th February 2026, officers attached to the Command carried out coordinated raids in Kofar Mata area, Danzaki Village, Fagge, Kofar Wambai, and Rimi Area. Thirteen (13) suspects including 2 females were arrested and assorted illicit substances were recovered, including:

• Cannabis sativa
• Diazepam
• Suck and die
• Rubber solution

CN D.Y. Lawal said the operation reflects the Command’s resolve to deny drug traffickers the opportunity to exploit the Ramadan period to distribute illicit drugs. “Operation Ramadan Mubarak is intelligence‑driven and proactive,” he stated. “Our objective is to protect worshippers, families and communities from the harms associated with drug abuse and to ensure that Kano remains peaceful and secure during this sacred period.”

The command noted with concern that some criminal elements target people during the Ramadan period and that the use of illicit drugs often contributes to violent and opportunistic attacks. In line with directions from the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, the NDLEA in Kano will intensify patrols, strengthen checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations to ensure a safer and more peaceful environment for all citizens.

The NDLEA calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity or information about drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official agency channels. Continued community cooperation is essential to safeguarding public health, religious observances and the general wellbeing of Kano residents.
