In governance, vision is important — but sustainability is greater.

Since assuming office, His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has demonstrated through action that the Kano First Agenda is not a slogan, but a people-centered commitment to rebuilding institutions, restoring dignity, and repositioning Kano State for sustainable development.

However, development is not only about constructing new projects; it is about maintaining and protecting what already exists. This is where society must rise to complement leadership.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has invested heavily in revitalizing education, improving public facilities, strengthening institutions, and restoring decayed infrastructure. Schools that were once neglected are receiving attention. Public offices are being reorganized. Social services are being restructured to reflect accountability and efficiency.

But government effort alone is not enough.

The Kano First Agenda demands a parallel reorientation of society — particularly in the area of maintenance culture.

Maintenance culture is a measure of responsibility. It reflects whether citizens and institutions understand that public assets are collective trusts. When we misuse government facilities, vandalize infrastructure, or neglect public property, we undermine the very progress we celebrate.

Under this administration, public resources are being redirected toward people-focused development. Yet without a culture of preservation, these investments risk deterioration.

A politically conscious society must understand that supporting the Governor goes beyond political solidarity — it includes protecting and sustaining the projects delivered under his leadership.

Historically, Kano thrived not only because of commerce, but because of discipline and communal responsibility. Markets were organized. Community assets were protected. Elders enforced standards. There was pride in stewardship.

Today, the Kano First philosophy seeks to revive that spirit.

Within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), this administration has emphasized reform and accountability. However, maintenance must now be institutionalized as a governance culture. Preventive systems, regular monitoring, and responsible usage of public assets must become standard practice.

Economically, maintenance culture reduces unnecessary spending on repeated rehabilitation. Socially, it strengthens public trust. Politically, it solidifies the gains of reform-driven leadership.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has laid a foundation rooted in people-centered governance. The next step is collective responsibility.

If Kano must lead in commerce, education, and political maturity, it must also lead in discipline and sustainability.

The Kano First Agenda is clear: Kano above waste. Kano above negligence. Kano above short-term display.

The rebirth of maintenance culture is not optional — it is essential.

Supporting this administration means preserving its achievements.

Kano must not only build; Kano must sustain.

The time for reorientation is now.
