KANO — Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to promoting moral values, religious harmony, and peaceful coexistence.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Waiya stated this at a two-day conference for Imams and Islamic scholars, describing the gathering as timely and critical to restoring societal values and strengthening unity.

Speaking on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the conference organized by the Tijjaniyya Progressive Youth Assembly of Nigeria and themed “Awakening Hearts and Restoring Human Values,” the Commissioner said it was a privilege to deliver the message of the Kano State Governor at a period marked by growing social and ethical concerns.

According to him, the objectives of the conference directly addressed the erosion of societal values and culture, fueled by actions and inactions that have encouraged disrespect for leaders, the spread of derogatory and abusive language, and divisions rooted in sectarian leanings.
While conveying Governor Yusuf’s message, the Commissioner reiterated the administration’s deep concern over declining religious harmony and unity.

He noted that the prevailing culture of intolerance and public insults — often driven by differences in opinion and allegiance — threatens peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

He assured participants that Governor Yusuf remains fully committed to supporting initiatives that promote a safer, more responsible, tolerant, and united Kano, stressing that sustainable development depends on shared values and collective discipline.

The Commissioner emphasized that Islamic scholars remain among the few groups not yet deeply affected by the disturbing social trend, placing a significant responsibility on them to uphold the dignity of Imamship and scholarship.

He urged the Ulamas to prioritize teaching and preaching the true message of Islam, cautioning against engaging in divisive debates and displays of intolerance, particularly on social media platforms.

He said the spirit demonstrated by participants reflected a readiness to serve as a moral compass for society and foster peaceful coexistence.

The conference drew scholars, religious leaders, and youth stakeholders committed to strengthening ethical conduct and reinforcing shared human values across communities.
