ALFIJIR NEWS REPORT:

A career development expert, Dr. Ibrahim A. I. Ɓagwai, has cautioned academics against venturing into the academic space without a clear and deliberate career strategy, warning that lack of direction remains one of the biggest threats to professional growth within the sector.

Speaking on the challenges facing many young scholars, Dr. Ɓagwai noted that while enthusiasm often drives people into academia, failure to map out a defined pathway leaves many trapped in routine duties with no tangible progress.

According to him, “he who fails to plan has already planned to fail,” stressing that strategic preparation determines long-term success.

He explained that thriving in academia requires a well-structured roadmap, including identifying essential skills, pursuing relevant certifications, expanding professional networks, and setting targeted goals—whether in research publishing, career advancement, or transitioning into industry roles.

Dr. Ɓagwai further emphasized that intentionality, not just talent, is what propels many academics to greater heights. He urged scholars to prioritize continuous learning, remain adaptable, and make informed decisions that shape their career trajectory.

“In academia, direction is more important than duration,” he said. “Don’t let time pass without purpose. Build your career with intention, not by default.”
