Morgan State University in the United States has presented Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo with the Distinguished Scholarship, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship Recognition Award for 2025.
The award certificate was signed by Professor Hakeem I. Tijjani, the Executive Director of Global Partnerships Africa.
Professor Gwarzo, who is the President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, is the founder of Maryam Abacha American University in Niger and Nigeria, Franco-British International University in Kaduna, and Canadian University in Abuja. He was also recognized as the 2025 Distinguished African Edupreneur for his exceptional contributions to human capacity development.
The honor coincided with Professor Gwarzo’s 47th birthday.
Morgan State University, established in 1867, is a Carnegie-classified high research (R2) institution. It provides education to a diverse student body, offering more than 140 academic programs leading to degrees ranging from baccalaureate to doctorate.
As Maryland’s Preeminent Public Urban Research University, Morgan addresses the challenges of urban environments through community-level studies and innovative solutions.
The Office of Strategic Partners and Recruitment (Africa) at Morgan State University was established on November 28, 2017, when the university hosted twelve vice-chancellors from Nigerian universities.
This initiative resulted in formalizing relationships with four institutions through MOUs. President Wilson has since visited Nigeria twice as a keynote speaker, promoting Morgan’s vision for globalized education.
