A CALL FOR BUILDING A MORE INCLUSIVE SHURA COMMITTEE.
Salute to the Executive Governor, His Excellency Engr Abba K Yusuf for an Inclusive Governance for a Prosperous Future of Kano State. Your leadership and commitment to the development of our state have already set a positive example for the rest of the country.
I am writing this open letter as a concerned Kano citizen who deeply believes in the development and inclusivity of our beloved state. In light of the formation of the new State Advisory Committee (SHURA),Sir, as a PWD, I would like to draw your attention to a few critical considerations that I believe will ensure that the voices of all our citizens are heard, especially those who are often marginalized.
I urge His Excellency to consider the followings:
1.Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups in the SHURA Committee.
As you are aware, one of the key pillars of good governance is inclusivity. The establishment of the SHURA provides a unique opportunity to elevate the voices of those who are most vulnerable in our society.
These segments of our society often face unique challenges that require tailored solutions, and their direct participation in the SHURA will ensure that no one is left behind in the decision making process. It is crucial that the committee reflects the diversity of our population in order to create policies that benefit every citizen, regardless of their background or circumstances.

2.Establishment of a Lower SHURA Committee.
In addition to ensuring the representation of vulnerable groups in the SHURA, I propose the creation of a lower SHURA committee that includes dedicated representatives from women, youth, people with disabilities, civil society organizations, traders, and other grassroots groups. This committee would serve as a vital conduit for gathering input from a wide range of communities across the state. The lower committee would be responsible for compiling submissions, recommendations, and communiques,which would then be forwarded to the upper SHURA for further consideration.
This approach will ensure that the voices of all communities are heard and adequately represented in the final decisions, creating an inclusive and comprehensive governance structure that resonates with the needs of the entire population.
These few of my suggestions or recommendations will enable His Excellency to take another significant step toward ensuring that Kano State governance processes are not only efficient but also equitable and responsive to the needs of all its citizens. It is my sincere belief that such measures will foster greater trust in His Excellency, Engr Abba K Yusuf administration and contribute to the long-term prosperity and unity of our state.
Lastly, I am confident that, under the guidance, of His Excellency, Engr Abba K Yusuf we can create a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their gender, age, disability, or social status. I respectfully urge His Excellency to consider these suggestions for a more inclusive SHURA committee.
