A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of $2.045 million, seven prime properties, and shares linked to Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor.
In the ruling on Friday, Justice Deinde Dipeolu cited that Emefiele failed to justify the source of funds for these assets or link them to lawful earnings from his prior roles at Zenith Bank and the CBN.
The properties include luxury duplexes, an industrial complex, and land in Lagos and Delta State, all reportedly acquired through companies unconnected to Emefiele.
The court ruled that the properties were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with illicit funds and thus ordered their final forfeiture to the government.
